This project emerged from a multidisciplinary collaboration between dance and visual art, uniting Korean choreographer Sun Young Lee and Australian artist Jonathan Kim. It was initiated by the premise that artists working across distinct genres and national contexts can establish meaningful connections through the shared language of art.
Over several months, multiple artists participated in studio sessions in both Australia and South Korea, producing meticulous painterly traces on fabric through the use of their body movements. The resulting works were subsequently divided and exchanged between the two countries, where each artist continued the process by sewing and assembling the materials into a single, cohesive composition.
The project symbolically reflects the themes of connection, relationship, and longing, analogous to the Chinese characters 聯, 緣, 戀, all of which share the thread  糸  radical—a visual and linguistic metaphor suggesting that dispersed individuals are interwoven through an invisible thread of artistic exchange.

Co-directed by Sun Young Lee and Jonathan Kim, Yeon(연: 聯, 緣, 戀), 2021, [Performance] 47min 34sec. Mukri 459, Yongin, South Korea. Performed by 29 Dong Dance Theatre.
