Series: Integration and expansion of time and spaces
Jonathan Kim's previous practice examined my experience of actual objects or materials as media rather than digital media. However, the pandemic affected all areas of politics, society and the economy as an unexpected global crisis. Kim asked what kind of exhibit form would be needed to address this time of enforced separation due to this crisis and how such a concept could correspond to his existing art concept of placing importance on Gong-gan- seong.
The installation device connects two separate spaces using real-time streaming technology. Through four demonstrations at Nexus Arts Gallery, The Main Gallery and Kerry Packer Civic Gallery, Kim connected an isolated studio, cafe, closed shop and gallery spaces in Australia, Korea and China through collaboration with different genres of Korean artists. This project helped to develop new ideas to create innovative work for adapting to COVID-19.
